I’ve long believed that geography plays a bigger role in our health than we think—this study confirms it. I find the regional disparities in dementia risk striking.


The June 2025 article by Dintica, published in JAMA Neurology, found that dementia incidence was 25% higher in the Southeast and 23% higher in the Northwest and Rocky Mountains compared to the Mid-Atlantic, even after adjusting for health and demographic factors.
