Airlines might finally catch a break on fuel costs — and this time, they don’t have to shrink the pretzel bags to do it. Who knew fewer pounds on passengers could add up to so many dollars saved at 30,000 feet?
A January 2026 Bloomberg News article by Lee highlights how the growing use of weight-loss drugs like Ozempic and Wegovy could save major U.S. airlines up to $580 million in fuel costs this year. With airlines projected to spend $38.6 billion on jet fuel, even a modest 10% average passenger weight loss could trim fuel use by 1.5% and boost earnings per share by 4%.
Turns out, the real “lighter fare” might not be on the snack cart.
