It's estimated that one in eight Americans is currently taking a GLP-1 such as Ozempic or Mounjaro. A new poster at the American Heart Association Scientific Sessions 2025 examined whether lifestyle changes affect major cardiovascular outcomes (MACE). The lifestyle modifications were exercise, a healthy diet, getting good sleep, reasonable stress, social connection, and not smoking, not drinking or moderate alcohol intake, and no opioids.

People taking GLP-1s lowered their risk of major cardiovascular issues by 20%. Wow. But those who had six or more healthy lifestyle attributes had a 50% lower risk of major cardiovascular problems. Double wow.

The punchline is that even if you are eating less and have lost weight on a GLP-1, you should still ensure that you are sleeping, exercising, and avoiding smoking, drinking and opioids.
