We've had effective injectable GLP -1s for years, with a weight-loss approval in 2014. The pill form of Semaglutide (Wegovy) was approved in December of 2025. In April of 2026, orforglipron (Foudayo) was approved for weight loss. We now have a pill, making GLP-1 treatment more accessible for people who have been reluctant to start injections.

This 2025 study by Brett, published in The New England Journal of Medicine, evaluated orforglipron, a once-daily oral GLP-1 medication, in more than 3,000 adults with obesity or overweight. Participants taking the highest dose lost about 12% of their body weight over 72 weeks, significantly more than those receiving placebo.

The arrival of this new oral GLP-1 expands treatment options beyond oral semaglutide/Wegovy. This is a rapidly evolving area of medicine, and I continue to watch it with fascination.
