GLP-1 medications are showing up everywhere lately, and many clinicians have been nervous about using them in people with type 1 Diabetes (previously known as Juvenile Diabetes).
At the 2026 American Association of Clinical Endocrinology Annual Meeting, researchers shared findings from a large single-center study of more than 7,300 adults with type 1 diabetes. The study found that off-label GLP-1 use was not linked to higher rates of diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) or pancreatitis. Patients using GLP-1 medications also had lower overall hospitalization rates compared with nonusers. The researchers emphasized that insulin dose adjustments must be individualized and closely monitored, while larger randomized trials are still ongoing.
