First diabetes. Then obesity. Now cancer researchers are taking a closer look. GLP-1s continue to be unexpectedly busy.
This June 2026 study by McDonald, published in JCO Oncology Practice, analyzed health records from women ages 45 to 80 with overweight or obesity who had breast imaging. Researchers found that women prescribed GLP-1 medications had about a 30% lower incidence of breast cancer compared with those not taking them. The study was observational, so it does not prove that GLP-1s prevent breast cancer, but it adds to growing interest in how these medications may affect inflammation, metabolism, and cancer risk.
Apparently, GLP-1s are not done expanding their résumé.
