Many of my clients take supplements. Some find them on their own, some are sold to them by various types of “professionals” promising wellness. Supplements do not have the same safety oversights as medications and we all know that medications already have plenty of safety issues.

This July 2025 Study by Marginean, published in the Hepatology, shows the proportion of liver injury attributed to supplements more than tripled between 2004 and 2013, from 7% to 20% of all US Drug-Induced Liver Injury Network (DILIN cases). The most frequently implicated supplements are turmeric, green tea extract, kava, black cohosh, and usnic acid. Please use caution in taking high doses of any supplement for extended periods of time.
