Medications help many people with depression, but some continue to struggle despite treatment. Esketamine (Spravato) nasal spray has been used to help individuals with major depressive disorder (MDD) who have not responded to at least two antidepressants. A large-scale study by Del Casale, published in JAMA in April 2025, offers renewed hope for those with treatment-resistant depression. The research shows promising results when esketamine is combined with other antidepressant medications.
