Drinking Hits Record Lows — Here’s Why

There have been several recent studies linking any alcohol consumption with health problems, including a variety of cancers. While I still drink alcohol occasionally, I am one of many who has reduced their alcohol intake.
This August 2025 article published in Reuters, highlights Gallup’s latest survey showing U.S. alcohol consumption has dropped to the lowest level since tracking began in 1939. Only 54% of adults reported drinking, and average weekly intake is at a 30-year low. Health concerns, including cancer risks linked to alcohol, appear to be driving the decline.
