Before my work in patient advocacy, I was a Chief Medical Officer for several large hospital-employed medical groups. One common point of friction was the time it took the medical staff office to vet a new doctor. We wanted the doctor to start immediately, and the vetting of credentials could take months. An important safety step was to ensure that each doctor was who they said they were.
I was fascinated to learn about a doctor who, while on the run from sexual abuse charges, changed his name, invented new credentials, and got hired as a cancer researcher. It pays for employers to be responsible and do their homework on every new hire, even doctors.
According to the July 2026 article by Feuerstein, published in STAT News, he claimed prestigious academic credentials and drug development experience, co-authored research, and worked with multiple pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies before his true identity was uncovered.
