We’ve focused on cholesterol for many years. More recently, we’ve realized that the other numbers on the lipid panel matter. This November 2025 study of 5,291 patients with previous ischemic stroke, published in Circulation, showed that a low-density lipoprotein (LDL) level below 40 mg/dL reduced major adverse cardiovascular events by 31% compared with patients whose LDL remained ≥70 mg/dL. It also reduced the risk of all stroke by 27% and ischemic stroke by 25%, without increasing hemorrhagic stroke.
Stay tuned, to the guidelines may change, especially for those at high risk of cardiovascular events.
